The Business of Being an Intern

If you've stopped by the Chamber lately, or joined us at an event, you may have already had the privilege of meeting our student intern, Tim Zaman. Tim comes to us from Garland High School as part of the Career Prep Course led by instructor Jerri Scribner. Through a combination of classroom curriculum and real-world job experience, Tim is learning how to best prepare for his future. As such, one of his tasks was to reflect on the summer here at the Chamber and share with you all what he's learned in his first two months as an intern.

Moving Forward with Garland's New City Manager

In just three months on the job, newly-appointed City Manager Bryan Bradford has faced some significant challenges at the helm of Garland’s local government. Through various forms of crisis, he and the dedicated City staff and elected officials serving alongside him have maintained the highest level of professionalism and done much to protect the reputation of the city. Perhaps an even bigger feat, Bradford and his team have succeeded in building confidence among residents that Garland is truly a place one can be proud to claim as home.

Announcing Our Newest Team Member

The Garland Chamber of Commerce staff is thrilled to announce the newest addiction to the Chamber team, Tim Zaman. Tim joins us as our Summer Intern, or as CEO Paul Mayer refers to him, the Director of First Impressions. Whatever the title, Tim will now be the first face you see in the Chamber office and will serve as an assistant to his fellow Chamber team members.

Interstate 635 East Delegation Meets in Garland

As a part of the Garland Chamber of Commerce legislative agenda, proposed Interstate 635 legislation was something the organization monitored closely during the most recent legislative session. Though bills regarding the eastern extension didn't make it to the floor for a vote during session, local elected officials in the Interstate 635 East Legislative Delegation remain diligent about finding a funding solution for the much-needed project.

The City of Garland and Walmart will celebrate the relighting of the historic Garland Shopping Center Sign at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26th. The celebration will take place in the Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot on Garland Avenue at Miller Road.
