Propel is all about creating opportunities for Garland area young professionals to succeed, which is why all Propel events and activities are developed and facilitated by the Propel Leadership Team and Propel Committees. By encouraging professional development, leadership skills and career advancement of Garland area young professionals through active participation in every facet of Propel, the Chamber hopes that participants will have the opportunity to hone their skills and acquire relevant experience that they can take back to their own places of business.

Become a Member of Propel

All Propel participants should be between the ages of 21 and 40 as that is the target demographic of the Propel program. Chamber members and non-members are welcome to participate. Joining Propel is encouraged, but not required in order to attend events. 
  • What You Get

    If you want to get the most out of your involvement with Propel, you definitely want to join! Members get free admission to each quarterly Propel event, two guest passes, plus invitations to exclusive networking meet-ups, eligibility for the annual "Get on Board" event and eligibility to receive annual awards. Plus, only Propel members* can serve on Propel committees.

  • How to Join

    The cost to join Propel for a full year is $50 for Garland Chamber members and $75 for non-members, which covers your activities for the year (and also gets you some pretty cool swag). Not sure if your company is a member? Check our online, searchable directory. If you choose not to join Propel, you may participate in individual events for a fee.

Apply for a Propel Commitee

Skills are best developed through active participation, which is why Propel events are 100% created by the audience the program serves. Propel's various committees allow for young professionals to serve in an area related to their interest and skill set. Learn more about committees below. 

All Committee Applicants Must:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 40 as that is the target demographic of the Propel program.
  • Be members of the Garland Chamber of Commerce and Propel in order to serve.
  • Submit a completed application and a letter of recommendation.
  • Certify (on the application) that they have reviewed and understood the responsibilities of the position for which they are applying.
  • Networking Committee

    The Networking Committee’s purpose is to plan and execute quarterly networking outings for Propel members. The event format and activity should promote social interaction as well as network growth.

    The Service Committee’s purpose is to seek out community needs and work with local non-profit agencies to create quarterly community service opportunities for Propel members.

  • Professional Development Committee

    The Professional Development Committee’s purpose is to seek out topics and subject-matter experts to present dynamic and engaging professional development content at quarterly Propel events. These events are the cornerstone of the program.

    The Marketing / Membership Development Committee’s purpose is to attract young professionals to Propel programs and events through active recruitment and marketing strategies.

Apply for the Propel Leadership Team

The Leadership Team’s purpose is to develop and guide programs that will engage Garland area young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 to participate in networking, service, professional development activities. Programs should be fun and appealing to the target demographic, but should also maintain a focus of creating opportunities for professional development and individual success. The Leadership Team consists of a Chairperson and Chairs from each of the four Propel committees.

All Leadership Team Applicants Must:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 40 as that is the target demographic of the Propel program.
  • Be members of the Garland Chamber of Commerce and Propel in order to serve.
  • Submit a completed application and a letter of recommendation.
  • Certify (on the application) that they have reviewed and understood the responsibilities of the position for which they are applying.

Team Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing program themes and ideas
  • Managing the program’s operating budget (with Chamber staff liaison)
  • Coordinating the annual “Get on Board” event
  • Recommending membership award recipients for the Chamber’s Annual Banquet
  • Leadership Team Chair

    The Leadership Team Chairperson is expected to act as the liaison between all committees, as well as to steer the overall direction of the program for the term year. Responsibilities include the following.

    Preside over all Leadership Team meetings; 
    Make recommendations to the Garland Chamber staff liaison regarding program development; 
    Prepare agendas and minutes for all Leadership Team meetings; 
    Attend all Propel programs and events

  • Networking Committee Chair

    The Networking Committee Chairperson is expected serve on the Propel Leadership Team, and to recruit and lead a committee in developing fun, functional networking outings. Responsibilities include the following.

    Recruit committee members;
    Manage the scheduling and coordination of networking outings;
    Coordinate and manage the check-in process at all Propel programs and events

  • Service Committee Chair

    The Service Committee Chairperson is expected to recruit and lead a committee in arranging service projects that promote a spirit of community investment. Responsibilities include the following.

    Recruit committee members;
    Act as the primary communication point for the organization being served;
    Secure supply donations as necessary;
    Manage logistics

  • Professional Development Committee Chair

    The Professional Development Committee Chairperson is expected to recruit and lead a committee in developing live-stage relevant programming that promotes education and leadership.Responsibilities include the following.

    Recruit committee members;
    Present speaker, venue and catering options to the Leadership Team and book selected vendors;
    Act as the primary communication point for speaker, venue and catering representatives;
    Secure speakers’ biographies and topic summaries;
    Ensure a creative, topic-relevant activity is planned to accompany each professional development presentation

  • Marketing / Members Development Committee Chair

    The Marketing / Membership Development Committee Chairperson is expected to recruit and lead a committee in developing a strong, diverse and active membership. Responsibilities include the following. 

    Recruit committee members;
    Act as emcee at all Propel programs and events;
    Secure sponsors for Propel functions;
    Present promotional item and award options to the Leadership Team;
    Present monthly membership report at Leadership Team meetings
