LEADERSHIP GARLAND PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
The Garland Chamber of Commerce Seeks Applicants for Class 32 of its Leadership Garland Program
(GARLAND, Texas) – Develop leadership skills and learn more about the Garland community by participating in Leadership Garland’s 32nd class.
In order to be considered a qualified candidate for Leadership Garland Class 32, applicants must fulfill one of the following categories: have lived in Garland one year immediately prior to Sept. 1, 2012; have worked in Garland one year immediately prior to Sept. 1, 2012; or be an active member of the Garland Chamber of Commerce. The application, class schedule and additional details are available online at www.garlandchamber.com/leadership-garland/application-schedule. Completed applications must be submitted by July 27, 2012. Applicants accepted to the program must pay the tuition of $750 by Aug. 24, 2012.
Leadership Garland, a program of the Garland Chamber of Commerce, was founded in 1979 and is one of the longest-running leadership programs in the state of Texas. The program exists primarily to teach its participants how to give back to the Garland community in various capacities. The purpose of Leadership Garland is to provide corporate leadership training; to motivate and encourage civic leaders; and to develop personal leadership characteristics and skills within individuals. Leadership skill topics are taught with active participation along with numerous field trips. Each graduate is encouraged to actively contribute to Garland’s growth and future.
Leadership Garland truly develops Garland’s leaders of tomorrow. Mayor Ronald Jones, G.I.S.D. Superintendent Dr. Curtis Culwell, Chief of Police Mitch Bates, Dallas County Justice of the Peace Gerry Cooper, State Rep. Joe Driver and many others have successfully graduated from the program and moved on to key community leadership and service positions.

CANDIDATES ADDRESS IMPORTANT ELECTION ISSUES IN CHAMBER’S FORUM
G.I.S.D. Board of Trustees and Garland City Council Candidates Speak at April Garland Chamber Luncheon
(GARLAND, Texas) – Garland candidates in contested district races have added a stop to their campaign trails at the Garland Chamber of Commerce’s Monthly Luncheon on April 30, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Luncheon, held at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth Street in Garland, will serve as a forum for candidates running for positions on the G.I.S.D. Board of Trustees and the Garland City Council in the general election being held on May 12, 2012. Each candidate on the ballot is invited to attend and will be recognized; however, only candidates in contested races will have the opportunity to address attendees.
The local business community and citizens of Garland are invited to attend the Luncheon at $30 per Chamber member or $40 per non-member. Registrations made prior to April 26 will receive a $5 discount. Attendees are welcome to bring questions for the candidates as there will be a ten-minute question and answer portion following the candidates’ addresses to the group.

GARLAND CHAMBER ADVOCATES FOR MEMBERS
The Addition of the Legislative Affairs Committee Adds Value for Chamber Members
(GARLAND, Texas) – The Garland Chamber of Commerce adds the Legislative Affairs committee to its list of valuable resources for the Garland business community.
The Chamber recently founded a Legislative Affairs committee and while still in the early stages, its members are eager to research and support legislation that will contribute to the vitality of the Chamber's member businesses and the sustainability of the Garland community.
The committee members listed below began meeting on a monthly basis at the end of 2011. In 2012, while the Legislature is not in session, the committee will be working to research and develop a legislative agenda. All items considered will represent the best interest of the Garland community as a whole. Once an agenda is formed, it will be shared with the members and the community through the Chamber's e-newsletter and a newly developed page on the Chamber website. The Chamber staff and its committee members are looking forward to the positive impact this form of advocacy will have on the Garland community. (GARLAND, Texas) – The Garland Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce W. Michael Cox, Ph. D., as the keynote speaker for its 80th Annual Banquet on January 26 at 6 p.m.
The Garland Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting to recognize community accomplishments, local leaders and look toward the future in 2012. This year, internationally recognized consultant and speaker Dr. Cox joins the event to share economic insights in a presentation titled, “The Ascension of DFW.” Chamber members may attend the event for $75 per person or $750 per table of 10. Cox is the Director of the O’Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom for the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrade, to speak at 24th Annual Breakfast
(GARLAND, Texas) – The Garland Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrade, will speak at the 24th Annual Prayer Breakfast, benefitting the Leadership Garland program.
In its 24th year, the Prayer Breakfast remains a favorite event for Chamber members and the general public, drawing more than 400 attendees annually. The 2011 breakfast will take place at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center in Garland on Dec. 8 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrade, is scheduled as the keynote speaker. (GARLAND, Texas) – The Garland Chamber of Commerce will host its 27th Annual Golf Tournament at Firewheel Golf Park on Sept. 16, 2011.
Each year the Chamber teams up with the Garland Economic Development Partnership and the Garland Independent School District to bring this unique networking opportunity to area professionals. More than 20 local businesses have signed up to sponsor the tournament with various donations including funds, door prizes, and food. Plastipak Holdings, Inc. and Garland Power & Light are this year’s title sponsors.
Although there are many charitable golf tournaments offered throughout the year, the Chamber’s is a stand-out. More than just a day on the golf course, the Chamber encourages participants to use the tournament as a business tool by entertaining prospective clients, rewarding loyal customers or reconnecting with employees to build office morale. But the business benefits are more than meets the eye. All profits go to the GEDP, which enhances the business climate of Garland by recruiting new industry, growing the tax base and helping existing businesses succeed. GARLAND CHAMBER HOSTS COMMUNITY JOB FAIR
Conquering Connections through meeting members’ needs
(GARLAND, Texas) – Together with the Dallas County Manufacturers’ Association, the Garland Chamber of Commerce will host the “Conquering Connections Job Fair” August 11, 2011.
Several Garland manufacturers indicated in recent weeks that they have multiple job openings that need to be filled as soon as possible. In a continued effort to serve the needs of member businesses, the Garland Chamber of Commerce and DCMA put together a job fair open to the entire community. The fair will be held in the Gallery of the Garland campus of Richland College from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Businesses like Plastipak Packaging, Lonestar Plastics and the Garland Fire Department and Police Department have already registered to fill various positions.
Participation in the Chamber’s job fair allows employers to screen potential candidates, collect resumes, and build a pool of candidates for current and future hiring needs in one short afternoon. For businesses interested in having a booth at the event, registration is $100 for chamber members, $50 for non-profit organizations and $200 for non-members. The fee includes a basic booth set-up and two boxed lunches for company representatives. Participants are encouraged to bring any promotional materials and booth decorations they may want to use.
Job seekers can attend the fair at no charge and will register upon arrival. The chamber encourages job seekers to dress in business professional attire and come prepared with multiple copies of their résumés in order to interact with as many company participants as possible.
