About the Speaker
The Lester's purchased QMF Steel in 1994.
QMF provides aluminum, stainless and steel materials to TXDOT and NTTA through managed multi-year contracts, manufactured materials to OEMs and the DOJ through managed multi-year contracts, and fabricated structural and architectural metal products to companies in commercial and highway construction. The work is delivered across Texas and the U.S.
Notable local projects such as: LBJ Express Ornamental Fence over 8 bridges; the Dallas Horseshoe Pedestrial Rail (Margaret McDermott Signature Bridge); DART Streetcar Bus Shelters; Love Field Parking Garage Security Walls; UNT Dallas Campus Monumental Stairs/Rails and Balcony Rails; Troy Aikman's restaurant perimeter fence at Texas Live!
QMF just finished the Allen Collin College Technical Campus Stainless Steel Cable Rail, the Southwest Airlines Simulator Training Center Stainless Steel Cable Rail and DART Red/Blue Line Windscreens and Shelters.
QMF employs 42 people and has 60,000 sq.ft. of inventory, production, and storage space on five acres east of Dallas off Interstate 30.
QMF is DBE certified in TX, KY, IN, NC, RI, FL, NY, GA, MD, OK, and also SBE, WBE, SDB, WOSB, Texas HUB Certifited. We are members of the AGC and the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association. Sherrill is a member of the newly formed group DFW Network of Manufacturing Women.
QMF is the winner of the 2017 SBA National Prime Contractor of the Year Award and was visited by Linda McMahon, the recent cabinet member and SBA Administrator.
Toyota is engaged with QMF in their mentorship program. THey will be assisting us in space planning for our new 100,000 sq.ft. building in 2021.
Sherrill Lester is President of QMF Steel and a 2015 Cohort 2 graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program where she is a fequent panelist. She also attended the Surge & Grow program in 2019 and just completed the Provision Institute program in September. In addition, Sherrill was an Advisory Board Member of BB&T bank for three years.
Sherrill and Steve are natives of the DFW area and have lived in and around Garland their entire lives.
