35th Annual Golf Tournament Volunteer Responsibilities

All News

The 35th Annual Golf Tournament couldn’t be possible without the help of our volunteers. For those of you who have registered to be a volunteer, below you can find the responsibilities of all volunteers. If you have questions on what your position is as a volunteer, please reach out to a Garland Chamber staff member.

Registration
Time Required: 7 – 9:30 a.m.
General “Golfer” Check-In

Be prepared to so whatever is needed at the direction of Chamber staff. Some people will be needed to cheerfully “steer” the golfers into the registration area in an organized manner (i.e. not letting them enter registration backwards, etc.). Check-in golfers, distribute goodies, and assist in locating location of golfer cart / team.

“Tee Box Host” Check-In
Time Required: 7 – 9:30 a.m.
Helpers will assist “hosts” with finding their hole, understanding the rules (see below), where to set up, and help as needed.

Tee Box Host Rules:

  1. Please do not interfere with the pace of play.
  2. Please be respectful of the space surrounding the tee box.
  3. Be creative and have fun with the golfers!

Ticket Sales (Mulligans & Texas Tees)
Time Required: 7 – 9:30 a.m.
Mulligans
Mulligans are the golfer term for “do-over.” If a golfer hits a bad shot, then he/she can use one of his/her mulligans to take the shot again. Each golfer can use up to two (2) mulligans. One mulligan may be used on the “front nine” and the other on the “back nine”.

  • Each golfer can purchase as many mulligans as they want. The more they buy the better chance of winning a door prize. Do tell them they can only use two (2) mulligans on the course.
  • Cost per ticket: $5
  • They can be used on any shot but will not count on a hole in one!
  • The more mulligans purchased the more chances to win one of the five prizes.

Texas Tees
Texas Tees are used to allow the golfer to move up a tee box. Each golfer is allowed to use up to two Texas Tee tickets. One ticket can be used on the “front nine” and the other on the “back nine”.

  • Each golfer can purchase a max of two tickets.
  • Cost per ticket: $10
  • They can be used on any hole, but prizes will be forfeited on the contest holes.
  • Purchasing a Texas Tee ticket enters you for a chance to win the Grand Prize valued at $500.

Fairway Sitters
Time Required: All afternoon, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The “big prize,” winning a car for a hole in one, is provided by insurance policies procured for the event. The insurance requires that witnesses be present if a big prize is won. In addition, it is good PR for you to have happy smiling faces on the links to greet the golfers as they pass by. That said, you will be monitoring: Hole in One (on appropriate holes only) to see that the player makes the hole with only one shot.

Please be sure that one volunteer always remains at your station, especially when one goes on a bathroom break. Station yourself near the greens where you can see both golfer teeing off and the hole that the golf ball could roll into. However, be sure you’re not so close that you’ll get hit by an errant golf ball…

Snack Car Driver
Time Required: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This person will drive a golf cart (1 person per course) offering water and snacks to players.

Awards Ceremony
Time Required: 12 – 3 p.m.
Provide assistance as needed before and during awards ceremony.
