Dallas County amended the "Shelter-in-Place" order to take effect Monday, March 23, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. Order requires all individuals anywhere in Dallas County to shelter in place – that is, stay at home – except for certain essential activities and work to provide essential business and government services or perform essential public infrastructure construction, including housing.

The question this order brings is what businesses are essential? Below is the list of all businesses that are considered "essential" that are allowed to stay operational during the emergency order.

Home-based and residential-base for seniors, adults, and children

            Welfare

All essential government functions should be performed in compliance with social distancing of six (6) feet.

Airport operations

Roads and Highways

Public Transportation

Solid waste collection and removal

Internet

Telecommunications systems (global, national, and local for computing services, business infrastructure, communications, and web-based services)

Defense and National security-related operations

Manufacturing operations as long as compliant with social distancing requirements of six (6) feet

Basic Necessities for Economically Disadvantaged

Maintain Essential Operations of Residences

Warehouse/distribution and fulfilment

Storage for essential businesses

Funeral homes

Other services who provide services for safety, sanitation and essential operations for residences and essential businesses

Professional services

Childcare services

Childcare facilities providing services that enable employees exempted in this Order to work as permitted.



The businesses listed above have the option to remain operational. For a few businesses, the extra step of minimum social distancing of six (6) feet would be compliant.
