Leadership Garland Class 40 Retreat Day

On Sept. 25, Leadership Garland Class 40 made the trek to Stony Ranch for their first real taste of what Leadership Garland is all about. Though class members had met a few masked faces at their opening reception, they were still in the dark about the experience they were about to embark on when they arrived in Ponder that Friday morning.

Here’s what a few of the class members had to say by the end of the day:

“I didn’t have much of an expectation because I’ve never been in a class like this, but I was very surprised with the amount of fun, and the togetherness that a group of complete strangers can have with each other in such a short amount of time. It’s very valuable for anyone, at any place, to be a part of.”

Matt Pesta, Garland Police Department

“I came here really not knowing what to expect, except that I knew it was a ropes course and I thought that would be really awesome. It was a great time of bonding and getting to know people. One of the things I expected was that the content would be more dry and conservative - not nearly as fun as it really was! The people I’ve met have been so nice and there was more laughing than I thought there would be!”

Karen Cuttill, Dallas College

“Working for the Chamber, they kept me in the dark so I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew there were going to be a lot of team efforts, I just didn’t know the extent. I got to meet some awesome people and found myself having things in common with people I didn’t expect. We’re a group of strangers, but you never know how much you can all accomplish together until you do it. It was a great experience!”

Andrea Tamez, Garland Chamber of Commerce
